Week 08 - 2

Nowadays, as the development of technology, in some classes the books are replaced by the laptops, because it is more convenient and eco-friendly. However, I do not think it is a good idea. Firstly, laptops have negative impacts on people’s eyes. An increasing number of children have a poor eye condition in China because of the spread of electronics such as iPad, cell phone and computer. People may suffer from eyestrain after staring at a screen for too long, which may damage eyes. On the other hand, if using laptops is allowed in class, it may influence the learning environment. To be more specific, some students who have low-self-control may be distracted by some other things in the Internet, such as games, video and so on. Besides, if one student play computer games in the class, other students may be attracted and join them. These may post threat to students’ study and are disrespect to teachers. Therefore, from my perspective, it is better for students to use the traditional books to study rather than laptops.

Week 08 - 1

According to the international Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the number of international students was 0.8 million in 1975 and it increased almost five-fold to 3.7 million in 2009 in the world. With the development of
globalization, an increasing number of students intended to study abroad in
China. I think the international student must face barrier to the language.
Although the schools in China provided English class since primary school, even
kindergarten, the average English level is not high. I think the most important
reason is the students lack communication with native speakers. On the other
hand, the English teachers are not native speakers, so sometimes their means of
expression have a lack of naturalness. In addition, schools don’t have the
environment of learning English, because the students just speak English in
class. In this case, the students can’t receive the comprehensive English
education. Therefore, after they came to another country to study, it must be
very difficult for them in term of communication. From my perspective, the
foreign universities should offer some language classes for international
students to improve their language skills before entering universities.

Week 07 - 2

I am the only child in my family. My mother is very strict with me. She thinks the academic achievement is not important and she just wants me to become an independent and competent child; however, my father spoils me, but not overindulge. He almost meet all the things I want. When I decided to go abroad to study, my father disagreed in the beginning, but my mother gave me full support and persuaded my father. My mother has no job, so she felt bored after I left home to Canada. She bought a lot of flower feeds online and planted them in our garden. They boom successfully and my mother cuts some to put in the vases. She feeds some freshwater fishes which fished by my father and some tropical fish in fish tank. My mother also bought a lot of cooking machines to make special dishes and she goes to yoga class every afternoon. If it is sunny, she takes her two little dogs to the garden with her friends. I always laugh at my mother that she lives like an old people and it is very rich.
